Ph Adjuster
pH is a way to measure and quantify the acidity of a water solution. The pH scale is logarithmic and inversely follows the concentration of hydrogen ions in solution. The pH scale goes from 0 to 14 with 7 being the neutral pH and solutions that have pH values less than 7 are acidic and those with a pH greater than 7 are basic. It is important to measure the pH of all products, especially personal care products, because pH affects the product’s stability and more important, high (or very low) pH’s can cause skin irritation. The natural pH of the skin is about 5 (the actual average is slightly less at 4.7), so while it might seem advisable to adjust all of your products to pH 4.7 to minimize the potential for skin irritation, this is hardly practical and cannot be done with some products. But, pH does need to be adjusted in order to optimize product stability. Suncoast Products offers several chemicals to raise and lower pH and we have pH strips and pH meters to help you measure the pH of your products.
